Description

Summary The absence of restrictions on the endpoint, which allows you to create a path for uploading a file in a file distribution, allows an attacker to add arbitrary files to the distribution.

Details Vulnerable endpoint: POST /files

PoC

  1. Create a file distribution.

  2. Go to the link address (id of the file distribution is needed by an attacker to upload files there).

  3. Send a POST /files. As the value of the Upload-Metadata header we specify the sid parameter with the id of the file distribution obtained in the second step. In the response from the server in the Location header we get the path for uploading a new file to the file distribution.

  4. Send a PATCH /files/{{id}} request with arbitrary content in the request body. Id is taken from the previous step.

Impact The vulnerability allows an attacker to influence those users who come to the file distribution after him and slip the victim files with a malicious or phishing signature.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Open-source dependency
  1. Detect

Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for psitransfer. O3's reachability analysis confirms whether the vulnerable code path is actually invoked in your application, so you act on real exposure instead of every transitive match.

  2. Fix

Update psitransfer to 2.2.0 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms GHSA-xg8v-m2mh-45m6 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.

  3. Workarounds

If you can't upgrade right away: gate or disable the affected feature, validate untrusted input at the boundary, and avoid passing attacker-controlled data into the vulnerable path. O3's runtime protection blocks exploitation in production as an interim safeguard until the upgrade lands.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 pinpoints whether GHSA-xg8v-m2mh-45m6 is reachable in your code and exactly where to fix it, then blocks exploitation in production at runtime until the patched version is deployed.

Tailored to GHSA-xg8v-m2mh-45m6. Runtime protection reduces exposure until a permanent patch is applied and verified — it complements patching, it doesn't replace it.
