CVE-2026-75140 — jsoup
Fix: jhy/jsoup@862ba2fCVE-2026-75140 is a CWE-770 vulnerability in org.jsoup:jsoup. A fix is available for org.jsoup:jsoup — see the affected versions and patch details below.
jsoup Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in XmlTreeBuilder
Exploitation Status
No confirmed exploitation observed yet
- CISA assesses this as automatable — exploitation doesn’t require manual, per-target effort, which raises the odds of mass scanning and opportunistic attacks.
- CISA’s own triage has not observed active exploitation or public proof-of-concept code for this CVE as of its last assessment.

Description
jsoup through 1.23.2, fixed in commit 862ba2f, contains an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability in XmlTreeBuilder that allows remote attackers to exhaust JVM heap memory by supplying a deeply nested XML document with uniquely-namespaced elements. The builder copies the entire inherited namespace map on every start element, causing quadratic time and memory complexity, which attackers can exploit to trigger an OutOfMemoryError and terminate the application.

Detection & mitigation playbook
Open-source dependencyDetect
Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for org.jsoup:jsoup, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.
Fix
Update org.jsoup:jsoup to 1.23.2 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2026-75140 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.
Workarounds
Cap what an attacker can consume: apply request size, rate and timeout limits in front of the affected component, and run it with memory and CPU limits so exhaustion degrades one worker rather than the whole service.
Fixing This On Your OS
If you run this on a Linux distribution, patch through your package manager against the distro's own security advisory below — it tracks the exact backported fix for your release, which can ship on a different timeline (and sometimes a different severity) than the upstream project.
A flaw was found in jsoup. Parsing deeply nested XML documents can cause a denial of service via excessive stack consumption, leading to a StackOverflowError. An attacker who can supply untrusted XML input to an application using jsoup for parsing can exploit this to crash the application or exhaust system resources.
Validate and limit the nesting depth of XML documents before passing them to jsoup for parsing. Applications should implement input size limits and consider using iterative XML parsers for untrusted input. Where possible, restrict the sources of XML input to trusted origins only.Source: Red Hat security advisory for CVE-2026-75140 (CC BY 4.0)
