Jenkins 2.63 - Sandbox bypass in pipeline: Groovy plug-in

Detection & mitigation playbook

Open-source dependency
  1. Detect

Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow:workflow-cps, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.

  2. Fix

Update org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow:workflow-cps to 2.64 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2019-1003030 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.

  3. Workarounds

If you can't upgrade right away: gate or disable the affected feature, validate untrusted input at the boundary, and avoid passing attacker-controlled data into the vulnerable path. O3's runtime protection blocks exploitation in production as an interim safeguard until the upgrade lands.

How to detect CVE-2019-1003030

A community-maintained Nuclei template exists for this CVE. You can scan for it directly:

nuclei -id cve-2019-1003030 -u https://target
Template
Jenkins Pipeline Groovy Plugin <=2.63 - Insecure Deserialization
Severity
critical
Impact
Low-privilege authenticated users (requiring only Overall/Read) can bypass the Groovy sandbox and execute arbitrary OS commands on the Jenkins controller. This leads to full CI/CD pipeline compromise: credential theft, SSH key extraction, arbitrary node execution, and supply chain attacks via poisoned build artifacts.
Remediation
Upgrade Pipeline: Groovy Plugin (workflow-cps) to version 2.64 or later. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict Overall/Read access to trusted users only, or disable Pipeline job creation for untrusted users.

Fixing This On Your OS

If you run this on a Linux distribution, patch through your package manager against the distro's own security advisory below — it tracks the exact backported fix for your release, which can ship on a different timeline (and sometimes a different severity) than the upstream project.
