CVE-2021-41225 is a high-severity (CVSS 7.8) CWE-908 vulnerability in tensorflow. 1 public exploit reference exists, so weaponization risk is real. A fix is available for tensorflow — see the affected versions and patch details below.

Description
Impact
TensorFlow's Grappler optimizer has a use of unitialized variable:
const NodeDef* dequeue_node;
for (const auto& train_node : train_nodes) {
if (IsDequeueOp(*train_node)) {
dequeue_node = train_node;
break;
}
}
if (dequeue_node) {
...
}
If the train_nodes vector (obtained from the saved model that gets optimized) does not contain a Dequeue node, then dequeue_node is left unitialized.
Patches
We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 68867bf01239d9e1048f98cbad185bf4761bedd3.
The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.7.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.6.1, TensorFlow 2.5.2, and TensorFlow 2.4.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Detection & mitigation playbook
Open-source dependencyDetect
Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for tensorflow, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.
Fix
Update tensorflow to 2.6.1 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2021-41225 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.
Workarounds
If you can't upgrade right away: gate or disable the affected feature, validate untrusted input at the boundary, and avoid passing attacker-controlled data into the vulnerable path. O3's runtime protection blocks exploitation in production as an interim safeguard until the upgrade lands.
