Exploitation Status

No confirmed exploitation observed yet

  • A successful exploit gives an attacker total control of the affected component, not partial access.
  • CISA’s own triage has not observed active exploitation or public proof-of-concept code for this CVE as of its last assessment.

Description

nanoid is a secure, URL-friendly, unique string ID generator for JavaScript. Prior to versions 3.3.12 and 5.1.11, the nanoid(size) function in index.js and index.cjs coerces the user-influenced size parameter to a signed 32-bit integer, allowing a value of 2147483648 to become -2147483648 and corrupt the process-wide CSPRNG poolOffset in fillPool(), which causes subsequent session tokens, CSRF tokens, API keys, and unique identifiers to become the deterministic string "uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" until the process restarts. This issue is fixed in versions 3.3.12 and 5.1.11.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Vulnerability
  1. Detect

Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for the affected component. O3's reachability analysis confirms whether the vulnerable code path is actually invoked in your application, so you act on real exposure instead of every transitive match.

  2. Remediation status

No patched version of the affected component has shipped for GHSA-xwg4-73v4-xw9w yet. Where your build allows, override or pin the dependency away from the vulnerable range, and apply any maintainer-recommended mitigation.

  3. Mitigate without a patch

If you can't upgrade right away: gate or disable the affected feature, validate untrusted input at the boundary, and avoid passing attacker-controlled data into the vulnerable path. O3's runtime protection blocks exploitation in production as an interim safeguard until the upgrade lands.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 pinpoints whether GHSA-xwg4-73v4-xw9w is reachable in your code and exactly where to fix it, then blocks exploitation in production at runtime until the patched version is deployed.

Tailored to GHSA-xwg4-73v4-xw9w. Runtime protection reduces exposure until a permanent patch is applied and verified — it complements patching, it doesn't replace it.
