Description

Affected Packages / Versions

  • Package: openclaw (npm)
  • Affected versions: < 2026.4.20
  • Patched version: 2026.4.20

Impact

The agent-facing gateway config.patch / config.apply guard did not cover several operator-trusted settings, including sandbox policy, plugin enablement, gateway auth/TLS, hook routing, MCP server configuration, SSRF policy, and filesystem hardening. A prompt-injected model with access to the owner-only gateway tool could persist changes to those settings.

This is a model-to-operator guard bypass, not a remote unauthenticated gateway compromise. Severity is medium.

Fix

OpenClaw now blocks model-driven gateway config mutations for the broader operator-trusted path set and covers per-agent overrides and array-entry patching.

Fix commit:

  • fe30b31a97a917ecc6e92f6c85378b6b20352422

Release

Fixed in OpenClaw 2026.4.20.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Open-source dependency
  1. Detect

Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for openclaw. O3's reachability analysis confirms whether the vulnerable code path is actually invoked in your application, so you act on real exposure instead of every transitive match.

  2. Fix

Update openclaw to 2026.4.20 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms GHSA-7jm2-g593-4qrc is resolved across your whole dependency graph.

  3. Workarounds

If you can't upgrade right away: gate or disable the affected feature, validate untrusted input at the boundary, and avoid passing attacker-controlled data into the vulnerable path. O3's runtime protection blocks exploitation in production as an interim safeguard until the upgrade lands.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 pinpoints whether GHSA-7jm2-g593-4qrc is reachable in your code and exactly where to fix it, then blocks exploitation in production at runtime until the patched version is deployed.

Tailored to GHSA-7jm2-g593-4qrc. Runtime protection reduces exposure until a permanent patch is applied and verified — it complements patching, it doesn't replace it.
