Real-World Exposure
blender-mcpReal-time download stats are indexed for npm and PyPI packages. This vulnerability affects PyPI packages — download data is not available via public APIs for these ecosystems.
Description
BlenderMCP before commit 30a3308 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the download_polyhaven_asset method that allows attackers to write arbitrary files by injecting traversal sequences in API response include keys. Attackers performing MITM attacks or prompt injection can supply malicious paths like '../../.bashrc' to overwrite sensitive files and achieve persistent code execution.

| 🐍PyPI | blender-mcp | all versions | 1.6.5pip install --upgrade 'blender-mcp==1.6.5' |
Detection & mitigation playbook
Open-source dependencyDetect
Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for blender-mcp, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.
Fix
Update blender-mcp to 1.6.5 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms GHSA-4h8q-hh2j-755w is resolved across your whole dependency graph.
Workarounds
Resolve every user-supplied path to its canonical form and reject anything that escapes the intended directory, and run the component under an account that has no read or write access outside the directory it legitimately serves.
