Detection & mitigation playbook

Vendor / appliance
  1. Detect

Inventory every hp linux imaging and printing deployment and check each version against the affected-products list above.

  2. Fix

Apply the hp linux imaging and printing security patch or hotfix for CVE-2026-91102 on the affected version, following the vendor advisory for your exact build.

  3. Workarounds

Stop passing untrusted input into the interpreter or shell: call the affected binary with an argument array rather than a composed command string, reject anything outside a strict allowlist of expected values, and run the component under an account that cannot reach beyond the work it legitimately does. Alongside that, restrict the management interface to trusted networks and apply the vendor's recommended configuration mitigations.

Fixing This On Your OS

If you run this on a Linux distribution, patch through your package manager against the distro's own security advisory below — it tracks the exact backported fix for your release, which can ship on a different timeline (and sometimes a different severity) than the upstream project.

Workaround published by Red Hat
To reduce the attack surface, restrict network access to systems running HPLIP if network printing or remote management features are not actively used. Alternatively, if HPLIP functionality is not required, the `hplip` package can be removed. To remove the package: `sudo dnf remove hplip` Removing the package will impact printing capabilities for HP devices.
