Description

A flaw was found in the SAML implementation of Keycloak, an open-source identity and access management solution. The SAML Artifact Resolution and ECP SOAP endpoints do not properly limit the size or complexity of incoming XML requests. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this by sending specially crafted, large XML messages that cause the server to consume excessive memory. This leads to the application running out of memory and crashing, resulting in a denial of service for all users.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Vulnerability
  1. Detect

Identify every host running the affected component and compare the installed build against the fixed version below — for source-built or distro-packaged software the version string, not a lockfile, is the source of truth (`dpkg -l`, `rpm -q`, or the binary's own `--version`).

  2. Remediation status

The records we use list no fixed release for CVE-2026-82965. Check the upstream advisory for a patched version, and apply the exposure-reduction steps below in the meantime.

  3. Mitigate without a patch

Cap what an attacker can consume: apply request size, rate and timeout limits in front of the affected component, and run it with memory and CPU limits so exhaustion degrades one worker rather than the whole service.

Fixing This On Your OS

If you run this on a Linux distribution, patch through your package manager against the distro's own security advisory below — it tracks the exact backported fix for your release, which can ship on a different timeline (and sometimes a different severity) than the upstream project.

Red HatImportant

The Red Hat Product Security team has assessed the severity of this vulnerability as Important, given that it can be exploited by an unauthenticated remote attacker. Successful exploitation allows an attacker to cause a complete denial of service by crashing the Keycloak process. The vulnerability's root cause is the…
