Description

Chainlit before 2.10.1 contains a session hijacking vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to restore and inherit authenticated user sessions by presenting a valid sessionId during WebSocket session restoration without ownership verification. Attackers can exploit the restore_existing_session path to assume a victim's permissions and roles, enabling unauthorized invocation of tools and access to data restricted to the authenticated victim.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Open-source dependency
  1. Detect

Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for chainlit, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.

  2. Fix

Update chainlit to 2.10.1 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2026-56104 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.

  3. Workarounds

Put an independent control in front of the weakness: restrict the affected endpoint or interface to trusted networks, require an additional authentication factor or proxy-level check, and invalidate existing sessions and credentials in case the flaw has already been used.
