Description

Jenkins 2.587 and earlier, LTS 2.580.1 and earlier provides an HTTP endpoint that loads agents by name without validating the name, allowing attackers with Overall/Read permission to load any config.xml file on the controller file system as an agent configuration, and to overwrite an arbitrary config.xml file when that agent is saved, potentially resulting in arbitrary code execution.

Detection & mitigation playbook

Vendor / appliance
  1. Detect

Inventory every jenkins jenkins deployment and check each version against the affected-products list above.

  2. Fix

Apply the jenkins jenkins security patch or hotfix for CVE-2026-117616 on the affected version, following the vendor advisory for your exact build.

  3. Workarounds

Resolve every user-supplied path to its canonical form and reject anything that escapes the intended directory, and run the component under an account that has no read or write access outside the directory it legitimately serves. Alongside that, restrict the management interface to trusted networks and apply the vendor's recommended configuration mitigations.
