Impact
An attacker who has read plus create or update access to a collection can submit a request that includes a SQL injection targeting a specific field path shape and operators in Payload's SQLite and Postgres.
You are affected if:
- You use
@payloadcms/db-sqliteor@payloadcms/db-d1-sqlite. - You use
@payloadcms/db-postgresor@payloadcms/db-vercel-postgres< 3.73.0. - A readable collection has a
jsonfield, or ablocksfield withblocksAsJSON: true. - The attacker has read plus create or update access on it.
You are not affected if:
- You have no
json orblocksAsJSONfields.richText` is not affected. - You run a patched version.
Patches
The patched version sanitizes the query input to prevent injection.
Users should upgrade Payload packages to >= 3.90.0 or >= 4.0.0-canary.34.

payloadpayloadcmsDetection & mitigation playbook
Open-source dependencyDetect
Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for @payloadcms/db-sqlite, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.
Fix
Update @payloadcms/db-sqlite to 3.90.0 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2026-105856 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.
Workarounds
Until you can upgrade, make sure every query built from user input uses parameterised statements or a prepared-statement API rather than string concatenation, and reduce the database account's privileges so an injected query cannot read or alter data beyond what the feature needs.
