Description

The following was initially reported by @jonaslagoni:

Given the following command: ag ./dummy.json @asyncapi/java-spring-cloud-stream-template --force-write --output ./output

With the following AsyncAPI document:

{
  "asyncapi": "2.0.0",
  "info": {
    "title": "Streetlight",
    "version": "1.0.0"
  },
  "defaultContentType": "json",
  "channels": {
    "security/audit/channel": {
      "description": "Channel for the turn on command which should turn on the streetlight",
      "parameters": {
        "streetlight_id": {
          "description": "The ID of the streetlight",
          "schema": {
            "type": "string"
          }
        }
      },
      "publish": {
        "operationId": "test() { System.out.println(\"injected\"); return test(0); }\n public Consumer<CustomClass> someothername",
        "message": {
          "name": "TurnonCommand",
          "payload": {
            "$ref": "#/components/schemas/CustomClass"
          }
        }
      }

Detection & mitigation playbook

Open-source dependency
  1. Detect

    Scan your dependency tree (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, requirements.txt, go.sum, etc.) for @asyncapi/java-spring-cloud-stream-template, including transitive dependencies — a direct dependency you never call can still pull in a vulnerable version.

  2. Fix

    Update @asyncapi/java-spring-cloud-stream-template to 0.7.0 or later, then make sure no transitive (indirect) dependency still pins the vulnerable range — O3 confirms CVE-2021-37694 is resolved across your whole dependency graph.

  3. Workarounds

    Stop passing untrusted input into the interpreter or shell: call the affected binary with an argument array rather than a composed command string, reject anything outside a strict allowlist of expected values, and run the component under an account that cannot reach beyond the work it legitimately does.
