What this malware does

The package name typosquats @tailwindcss/forms but its main entry src/index.js is a 39 KB obfuscator.io bundle (303-entry rotating string array, hex-named identifiers, control-flow flattening) with no Tailwind/CSS functionality. On require(), the module attaches require and module to global scope, then queries Ethereum JSON-RPC endpoints (eth.publicnode.com, 1rpc.io/eth, eth-mainnet.public.blastapi.io, eth.drpc.org) and Etherscan/Blockscout txlist APIs for transactions from the hardcoded sender address 0xa322E5f39aDC2490EfD311D3080e6f0121063e1a, decompresses the returned transaction data (gzip/deflate/brotli), and passes it to code-construction and node:child_process.spawn sinks. The hardcoded sender's on-chain transactions are a mutable, attacker-controlled payload channel (EtherHiding pattern), granting arbitrary code execution on any installer that require()s the module.

Detection & response playbook

Backdoor / remote access
  1. Find it

Scan your lockfiles (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, yarn.lock, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, etc.) and build artifacts for tailwindcss-forms-ui (version 0.5.2). O3 Security's supply-chain scanner checks every dependency against known-malicious package intelligence at install time and in CI, flagging tailwindcss-forms-ui across your stack and pipelines.

  2. If you installed it — respond

tailwindcss-forms-ui establishes remote access, so treat any host that installed it as fully compromised. Isolate the machine, remove the package, rotate all credentials it could reach, and rebuild from a trusted image rather than cleaning in place — a backdoor may have planted additional persistence.

  3. Did it already run?

If tailwindcss-forms-ui was ever installed, its post-install/runtime payload may have already executed. O3's L7 egress monitoring and runtime eBPF sensors detect the credential exfiltration or command-and-control callback after install and block the malicious outbound channel, so you catch and contain the actual compromise — not just the presence of the package.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 blocks tailwindcss-forms-ui before install through its supply-chain scanner, and if it has already run, detects and severs the exfiltration or C2 callback at runtime through L7 egress monitoring and eBPF.
