What this malware does

Package name mimics the legitimate tailwindcss-forms plugin (repo field points at tailwindlabs/tailwindcss-forms) but the main entry src/index.js is an obfuscator.io-packed bundle (303-entry rotated string array, control-flow flattening) whose top-level code has no relation to a Tailwind CSS plugin. On require() it loads node:http, node:https, node:zlib, and node:child_process, then issues requests to a set of hardcoded Ethereum endpoints (eth.blockscout.com, *.publicnode.com, .drpc.org, 1rpc.io/eth) and an INDEXER_URL, carrying an etherscan-style txlist query against a hardcoded wallet address 0xa322E5f3... and custom x-payload- headers. Response content is stashed into process globals (_t_u, _t_s, _H, _H2) that are then consumed by a child_process.spawn call, giving the operator of the indexer remote code execution on the installer's machine at import time. The combination of typosquatted name, obfuscator.io packing of the main entry, hardcoded remote endpoints acting as a command channel, and spawn of a fetched payload is a supply-chain trojan disguised as a Tailwind plugin.

Detection & response playbook

Credential / info stealer
  1. Find it

Scan your lockfiles (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, yarn.lock, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, etc.) and build artifacts for tailwindcss-form (version 0.5.1). O3 Security's supply-chain scanner checks every dependency against known-malicious package intelligence at install time and in CI, flagging tailwindcss-form across your stack and pipelines.

  2. If you installed it — respond

tailwindcss-form is built to steal secrets, so assume every credential the build or runtime could read is compromised. Remove it from your project and lockfile, then rotate ALL exposed secrets — npm/registry tokens, cloud keys, CI/CD secrets, SSH keys, and any .env values — from a known-clean machine. Audit logs for unauthorized use of those credentials.

  3. Did it already run?

If tailwindcss-form was ever installed, its post-install/runtime payload may have already executed. O3's L7 egress monitoring and runtime eBPF sensors detect the credential exfiltration or command-and-control callback after install and block the malicious outbound channel, so you catch and contain the actual compromise — not just the presence of the package.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 blocks tailwindcss-form before install through its supply-chain scanner, and if it has already run, detects and severs the exfiltration or C2 callback at runtime through L7 egress monitoring and eBPF.
