What this malware does

Part of a self-republishing campaign: the package ships loop.js, which in a loop gives the package a new random name, bumps its version, rewrites package.json and runs npm publish to publish the package again under the new name. Self-replicating publication is the propagation step of a registry worm and fills the registry with copies. Version examined: 1.1.11; tarball SHA-256 ada56a62bf0b24e80c2cf729e7513e9a7072e3eb2ef9193c3f511beded852041.

Backdoor / remote access
  1. Find it

Search your lockfiles and build artifacts for maila-talijah-alpha-128 (version 1.1.11).

  2. If you installed it — respond

maila-talijah-alpha-128 establishes remote access, so treat any host that installed it as fully compromised. Isolate the machine, remove the package, rotate all credentials it could reach, and rebuild from a trusted image rather than cleaning in place — a backdoor may have planted additional persistence.

  3. Did it already run?

If maila-talijah-alpha-128 was installed, its post-install payload may already have run. Removing the package does not undo that — check outbound connections and credential use from the install window onward.
