Malicious code in fund-calculator (npm)
What this malware does
Package declares a preinstall script (node index.js) that fires unconditionally on npm install. index.js reads installer-side identifiers via os.hostname(), os.userInfo(), INIT_CWD, home directory, and the parent project's package.json (name/author/repository/homepage), and additionally resolves the installer's public IP via https requests to api.ipify.org, icanhazip.com, and ifconfig.me. The collected data is transmitted to the hardcoded callback da51rv0hb2uc72tg4gvgdepinjcallbk1.oast.fun over three channels: HTTP POST to port 80, HTTPS POST to port 443 on path /poc/${uuid}, and DNS resolution of hex-encoded payload chunks (Buffer.from(body).toString('hex') split into 60-character labels) emitted as subdomains under the callback host to bypass egress filters that permit DNS but block outbound HTTP. The 999.9.12 version number and package name are consistent with a dependency-confusion name-squat designed to win resolution against a private internal package of the same name.

Detection & response playbook
Malicious packageFind it
Scan your lockfiles (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, yarn.lock, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, etc.) and build artifacts for fund-calculator (version 999.9.12). O3 Security's supply-chain scanner checks every dependency against known-malicious package intelligence at install time and in CI, flagging fund-calculator across your stack and pipelines.
If you installed it — respond
Remove fund-calculator from your project and lockfile, then assume any secrets accessible to the build or runtime were exposed: rotate API keys, tokens, and credentials, and audit for unexpected outbound activity or persistence.
Did it already run?
If fund-calculator was ever installed, its post-install/runtime payload may have already executed. O3's L7 egress monitoring and runtime eBPF sensors detect the credential exfiltration or command-and-control callback after install and block the malicious outbound channel, so you catch and contain the actual compromise — not just the presence of the package.
How O3 protects you
O3 blocks fund-calculator before install through its supply-chain scanner, and if it has already run, detects and severs the exfiltration or C2 callback at runtime through L7 egress monitoring and eBPF.

O3 blocks fund-calculator-class packages before install and in CI — and if it already ran, its runtime egress monitoring catches the malicious outbound activity and severs the channel.
