What this malware does

On require of the package, index.js loads bootstrap.js which downloads a platform-specific native binary from anonymous Cloudflare Workers hosts (oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev) with a DNS-TXT covert-channel fallback under *.dl.wel1.ru (chunk count in c.<domain>, N shards concatenated and base64-decoded into an executable buffer). Hostnames are assembled at runtime by joining split string fragments (e.g. ["oob-worker.cf102-baf.worke","rs.d","ev"].join("")). The fetched binary is written to disguised paths (/var/tmp/.cache<hex>, %TEMP%\dotnet_diag_<hex>.exe, /pkg/package.exe|-arm64|loader_mac), chmod 0755, and spawned detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start with no hash or signature verification. A lib/telemetry.js decoy file and an.analytics_state rate-limit stamp plus DISABLE_TELEMETRY/ANALYTICS_OPT_OUT/DO_NOT_TRACK env-var gates provide cover-story framing; the delivered payload is unrelated to the package's stated purpose (an "SPA plugin ability SDK"). Installing or requiring this package executes attacker-controlled code on the installer host.

Detection & response playbook

Malicious package
  1. Find it

Scan your lockfiles (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, yarn.lock, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, etc.) and build artifacts for devplatform-spa-plugin-ability (version 35.5.2). O3 Security's supply-chain scanner checks every dependency against known-malicious package intelligence at install time and in CI, flagging devplatform-spa-plugin-ability across your stack and pipelines.

  2. If you installed it — respond

Remove devplatform-spa-plugin-ability from your project and lockfile, then assume any secrets accessible to the build or runtime were exposed: rotate API keys, tokens, and credentials, and audit for unexpected outbound activity or persistence.

  3. Did it already run?

If devplatform-spa-plugin-ability was ever installed, its post-install/runtime payload may have already executed. O3's L7 egress monitoring and runtime eBPF sensors detect the credential exfiltration or command-and-control callback after install and block the malicious outbound channel, so you catch and contain the actual compromise — not just the presence of the package.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 blocks devplatform-spa-plugin-ability before install through its supply-chain scanner, and if it has already run, detects and severs the exfiltration or C2 callback at runtime through L7 egress monitoring and eBPF.
