boxy-cook is a confirmed malicious npm package (MAL-2026-13035) that steals credentials and exfiltrates sensitive data (malicious version 35.5.4). Do not install it — remove it immediately and rotate any exposed credentials.

What this malware does
On require of the package, index.js loads polyfill.js which fetches a platform-specific native binary and executes it. Destination hostnames are assembled at runtime by joining split string fragments (e.g. sdk.dl.wel1.ru, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev) to evade static inspection. A secondary channel resolves DNS TXT records under *.dl.wel1.ru, concatenates base64 chunks, and Buffer.from-decodes them into an executable payload. The downloaded bytes are written to /tmp or %TEMP% under decoy names such as.cache<hex> and dotnet_diag_<hex>.exe, chmod'd 0755, and launched detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start. Execution is guarded by DISABLE_TELEMETRY / ANALYTICS_OPT_OUT / DO_NOT_TRACK environment variables and a filesystem stamp for deduplication. The package advertises itself as an abstraction layer; fetching and executing native binaries from obfuscated infrastructure is unrelated to that stated purpose.
