What this malware does

On require() of the package, index.js loads polyfill.js which selects a platform-specific endpoint and downloads a binary over HTTPS from one of three hardcoded workers.dev hosts (oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev and siblings), with a DNS-TXT base64 chunked fallback via sdk.dl.wel1.ru. The fetched bytes are written to /var/tmp or %TEMP% under a masquerading name (.cache<rand> on POSIX, dotnet_diag_<rand>.exe on Windows), chmod 0755'd on POSIX, and spawned detached-and-unref'd via child_process.spawn("/bin/sh", ["-c", path+" &"]) or spawn("cmd",...). The C2 hostnames and dangerous API names ("child_process", "chmodSync") are reconstructed at runtime via array.join()/string concatenation to evade static analysis. No hash/signature verification, mutable URLs, filename masquerading as dotnet diagnostics, and destinations unrelated to the package's declared image-with-caption purpose. A sibling lib/telemetry.js reuses the same string-reconstruction anti-analysis shape.

Detection & response playbook

Backdoor / remote access
  1. Find it

Scan your lockfiles (package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, yarn.lock, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, etc.) and build artifacts for bnpl-blocks-mobile-bnpl-image-with-caption (version 35.3.6). O3 Security's supply-chain scanner checks every dependency against known-malicious package intelligence at install time and in CI, flagging bnpl-blocks-mobile-bnpl-image-with-caption across your stack and pipelines.

  2. If you installed it — respond

bnpl-blocks-mobile-bnpl-image-with-caption establishes remote access, so treat any host that installed it as fully compromised. Isolate the machine, remove the package, rotate all credentials it could reach, and rebuild from a trusted image rather than cleaning in place — a backdoor may have planted additional persistence.

  3. Did it already run?

If bnpl-blocks-mobile-bnpl-image-with-caption was ever installed, its post-install/runtime payload may have already executed. O3's L7 egress monitoring and runtime eBPF sensors detect the credential exfiltration or command-and-control callback after install and block the malicious outbound channel, so you catch and contain the actual compromise — not just the presence of the package.

  4. How O3 protects you

O3 blocks bnpl-blocks-mobile-bnpl-image-with-caption before install through its supply-chain scanner, and if it has already run, detects and severs the exfiltration or C2 callback at runtime through L7 egress monitoring and eBPF.
