{"id":"CVE-2026-44691","aliases":["GHSA-g9jw-92q7-g7fj"],"url":"https://o3.security/vulnerability/CVE-2026-44691","summary":"[Eclipse Theia] Arbitrary Command Execution via Untrusted Workspace Task Definitions","details":"In Eclipse Theia versions prior to 1.69.0, custom task definitions in workspace files (e.g. .theia/tasks.json, .vscode/tasks.json) could be executed without requiring workspace trust. An attacker could craft a malicious repository that, when cloned and opened in Theia, leads to execution of arbitrary commands with the user's privileges. In combination with AI chat features and a workspace .theia/settings.json that disabled tool confirmation, this could be triggered automatically by sending a message in the AI chat.","published":"2026-06-18T14:35:25.486Z","modified":"2026-08-07T11:31:34.599879291Z","cvss":null,"epss":null,"cisaKev":null,"exploitsKnown":0,"affectedPackages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/debug","fixedVersion":"1.69.0"},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/task","fixedVersion":"1.69.0"},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/workspace","fixedVersion":"1.69.0"}],"fix":null,"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://gitlab.eclipse.org/security/cve-assignment/-/work_items/116"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/44xxx/CVE-2026-44691.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-44691"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://github.com/eclipse-theia/theia"}],"provenance":{"sources":["OSV.dev","FIRST.org (EPSS)"],"lastVerified":"2026-08-07T11:31:34.599879291Z"}}
