{"id":"CVE-2026-40879","aliases":["GHSA-hpwf-8g29-85qm"],"url":"https://o3.security/vulnerability/CVE-2026-40879","summary":"Nest: DoS via Recursive handleData in JsonSocket (TCP Transport)","details":"Nest is a framework for building scalable Node.js server-side applications. Prior to 11.1.19, when an attacker sends many small, valid JSON messages in one TCP frame, handleData() recurses once per message; the buffer shrinks each call. maxBufferSize is never reached; call stack overflows instead. A ~47 KB payload is sufficient to trigger RangeError. This vulnerability is fixed in 11.1.19.","published":"2026-04-21T19:14:17.894Z","modified":"2026-08-12T03:51:08.602643892Z","cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"},"epss":null,"cisaKev":null,"exploitsKnown":0,"affectedPackages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@nestjs/microservices","fixedVersion":"11.1.19"}],"fix":null,"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/40xxx/CVE-2026-40879.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/nestjs/nest/security/advisories/GHSA-hpwf-8g29-85qm"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-40879"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://github.com/nestjs/nest"}],"provenance":{"sources":["OSV.dev","FIRST.org (EPSS)"],"lastVerified":"2026-08-12T03:51:08.602643892Z"}}
