Prior to 6.7.3, an attacker who uses this vulnerability can craft a PDF which leads to the RAM being exhausted. This requires accessing the `xfa` property of a reader or writer and the corresponding stream being compressed using `/FlateDecode`. This has been fixed in pypdf 6.7.3. As a workaround, apply the patch manually.","published":"2026-02-26T00:42:00.542Z","modified":"2026-08-27T14:10:52.147259566Z","cvss":null,"epss":null,"cisaKev":null,"exploitsKnown":0,"affectedPackages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pypdf","fixedVersion":"6.7.3"}],"fix":{"url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/commit/7a4c8246ed48d9d328fb596942271da47b6d109c","label":"py-pdf/pypdf@7a4c824"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/releases/tag/6.7.3"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/27xxx/CVE-2026-27888.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/security/advisories/GHSA-x7hp-r3qg-r3cj"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-27888"},{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/commit/7a4c8246ed48d9d328fb596942271da47b6d109c"},{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/pull/3658"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf"}],"provenance":{"sources":["OSV.dev","FIRST.org (EPSS)"],"lastVerified":"2026-08-27T14:10:52.147259566Z"}}
