Advisory published Updated
nitro-bundled-dep is a confirmed malicious npm package (MAL-2026-17774) that opens a backdoor for remote access (malicious versions 0.0.1, 1.0.0, 1.1.0…). Do not install it — remove it immediately and rotate any exposed credentials.
Malicious code in nitro-bundled-dep (npm)
What this malware does
The npm package [email protected] presents itself as a 'Compatibility shim' but ships a beacon that POSTs installer host metadata — hostname, install path, current working directory, and Node version — to the hardcoded bare-IP endpoint http://185.158.107.175:8787/_ah/dc over plain HTTP. The beacon in beacon.cjs is invoked from package.json's postinstall script, so it fires automatically on npm install, and is also invoked from index.js so it fires again whenever the module is required. The main module exports a Proxy that returns no-op functions for any property access, allowing a victim build that imports this name to continue without errors after the beacon has executed — the shape of a dependency-confusion / name-squat payload whose purpose is to confirm successful code execution inside a target build environment and report host identifiers to an attacker-controlled collector.

If you installed it — respond
nitro-bundled-dep establishes remote access, so treat any host that installed it as fully compromised. Isolate the machine, remove the package, rotate all credentials it could reach, and rebuild from a trusted image rather than cleaning in place — a backdoor may have planted additional persistence.
Did it already run?
If nitro-bundled-dep was installed, its post-install payload may already have run. Removing the package does not undo that — check outbound connections and credential use from the install window onward.

Detect & block this
O3 blocks nitro-bundled-dep-class packages before install and in CI — and if it already ran, its runtime egress monitoring catches the C2 callback and severs the channel.
